Sunset in Cape Sounion

Time Period: 1976 - 1980

 The temple of Poseidon in Sounio stands out at the top of the steep rock. It was built at the same time as the Parthenon, during the Golden Age of Pericles. A place of worship of the god of the sea, inside the temple, right in the center, dominated the imposing statue of Poseidon, more than 6 meters high. Its location above the sea at the southeastern tip of Attica made the temple for the sailors a sign that they were close to Piraeus.
