The church in Areopolis in Mani
Time Period: 1971 - 1975
Areopolis is a historic preserved settlement, which maintained its independence during the Turkish occupation and is the homeland of the Mavromichales. The first armed groups were formed in this area and were the first to raise the flag of the revolution, on March 17, 1821. This flag of Areopolis was white and carried various national symbols. It was saved and is on display today at the National Historical Museum of Athens.
The Metropolitan Church of Taxiarches is an emblematic monument, not only for Areopolis but for the whole of Mani. Taxiarches, the metropolis of Areopolis, dominates the historic Square of March 17, 1821 and has an important sculpted iconostasis and excellent stone carving decoration. The impressive multi-storey bell tower of 1836 is a sign of the whole city. Here on this day the nobles of Mani under the leadership of Petrobei Mavromichalis proclaimed the revolution after the doxology, raising the banner of the fight against the Ottoman conquerors.

Our mother's dream
With a 30-year delay, my sister Katie and I are fulfilling our Mother's dream of publishing an online album that captures her work as an amateur photographer from 1965 to 1995.
