The priest of Areopolis

Time Period: 1971 - 1975

Areopolis is a historic preserved settlement, which maintained its independence during the Turkish occupation and is the homeland of the Mavromichales. The first armed groups were formed in this area. They were the first to raise the flag of the revolution, on March 17, 1821. This flag of Areopolis was white and carried various national symbols. It was saved and is on display today at the National Historical Museum of Athens.
