Leonidio took its name from the church of Agios Leonidas, which refers to a gold bullion of Andronikos Palaiologos in 1293 . A feature of Leonidio is the imposing red rock that rises above the settlement. Leonidio is today classified as a traditional settlement and has a picturesque architecture.
