Sparta is built on the eastern foothills of the imposing Mount Taygetos , near the right bank of the river Evrota and at an altitude of 210 m. p>
The city was re-established after the liberation of Greece in 1834 , following a decision made by King Otto in an official ceremony on in January 1857 The authorities were established by Mystras in the new city, which was the first in Greece to be drawn up with a urban plan . It has squares and tree-lined streets, large squares, neoclassical buildings and rich water supply.
