A watermill in Panagia in Thassos

Panagia is a picturesque mountain village at an altitude of 300m and has about 900 inhabitants. It is located in the northeastern part of the island and is 8 km from Thassos (Limenas). It became the capital of the island after the revolution of 1821 and took its name from the village church. It was organized the last 300 years when the inhabitants were forced due to piracy to leave the beaches and hide in the mountains.
